Dawn of Independence

The smoke billowing out from great but burned city of Bangalore had enveloped everything –all towns and forest around it. The darkness of the night sky along with the smoke wasn’t letting the dawn come in, the dawn everyone was waiting for. It may have been 15 years to 2017 maybe more! But I was 15 that time when those....those foul Chinese came with Pakistan.
We had just done a heavy battle with Pakistan and taken over all of Kashmir but far too many had died. It was decade of wars. Sociologists had started calling it World War-3.USA vs. Russia, 2nd War of North and South Korea etc. There it was their sudden attack on us that shocked the whole nation. We were not ready for yet another war. We were now the new province of New China. North India i.e. Rajasthan and above Delhi all is now Pakistan Territory.
I was just a kid but I saw all the horrors, backstabbing, murder, shooting. In my family only I and my dad survived. We moved to Nagpur from Mumbai which had suffered too much. All this anguish, desperation made my heart stronger and more revengeful. I made my first kill at the age of 24 by killing a Chinese officer who was going to shoot an old couple because they had given food to the rebels. They thanked me profusely. After I left that place I saw an old cloth that looked familiar and moments later I came to know it was our flag! Long it has been since I had seen it. My patriotism grew and then there was no turning back.
I woke from my daydream I could see the city burning along with it our second headquarters. Our rebel group has become stronger with many fighting for the same cause. We had targeted the big weapon’s factory in Chennai and my group was going to attack Chinese army base near Navi Mumbai. There were forty of us going to attack like assassins as we were trained for. All of us were determined to implement the attack. I carried out the plan.
Me and my best friend Yash killed the front guards easily and took their weapon. We were going to burn this mammoth base as a revenge for Bangalore. We started moving to the commander’s area as others would burn the tents. Suddenly one of our young rebels broke a pot in carelessness. Two soldiers Immediately came out and were going to fire at us that we killed them but it was too late many were swarming near us. I was ready to fight till death when Yash took me aside and said “Parth go kill the commander and blow the  monitoring system, we have already started burning the buildings.” “No I am staying here with you I said” “Yash said by smiling they look at you as their hero my friend. I will take the pleasure of dying for my country while you take the pleasure of seeing a free India”.
With this he ran to others. I was really angry but I had to do the mission. I went to see rather kill the Commander when I saw that he was going to kill an innocent Indian boy. I shot five bullets into his wretched body and freed the boy. I took out all the guards all by myself I guess because of my anger and started overriding the monitoring system. It was successful. Now the Chinese were totally blind to what was happening in this state. I was taking this good news to Yash when I saw that he was being stabbed by a Pakistani. I threw my axe and cut his head off. I ran to my friend’s side my eyes blood red with anger. “I had to die by the hands of a Pakistani that too a stab in the back, god has been cruel to me.” “We will talk about this at the bunker” I assured him though I could see I was failing. “No friend I can see my family from above. It was truly my greatest joy to fight alongside you brother.” “The honour and joy was full mine too” my eyes filled with tears. “Mom I am coming JAI HIND Parth” and he breathed his last.
I let out a blood curdling cry and had to be forcefully taken or else I would have been engulfed in the flames. The next morning all the people came to give tribute to the fallen rebels especially to captain Yash and to celebrate the destruction of the Chinese base. Many saw a sad change in me a man who now killed cruelly like death had himself come to bless him. Whatever it was I will not stop as this isn’t the end not even close our war for Independence had begun.
